The first quarter of 2017 extended the hectic end to last year with plenty of macro and market events to keep fund managers on their toes. Here, based on data from FE Analytics, are the top 10 performing UK retail funds by three-month performance.
At less than £35m in size, Neptune’s Latin America Fund may not be first port of call for investors in the region, though it has outperformed its peers in the region with a strong emphasis on Brazil (around 60% of the fund) as well as strong stockpicking within financials and volatile resources-related stocks.
The fund is managed by Thomas Smith, who has been with Neptune since July 2009. He is also manager of firm’s proprietary Oil & Gas Global Sector model portfolio. Ewan Thompson as his assistant manager.
Other funds investing in the region that delivered strong returns over the quarter included Aberdeen Latin American Equity (14%) and Scottish Widows Latin American (13.2%).
