An insight into Standard Life Aberdeen’s young Abu Dhabi office
By Mark Battersby, 7 Mar 18
One of the youngest international offices in the merged Standard Life Aberdeen Group was set up by Aberdeen Asset Management in late 2016, before two businesses combined.
Are there similar businesses being set up in the international financial centre, the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM)?
ADGM is slowly but surely gathering traction. If you were to speak to the ADGM, they would look at where the DIFC was at a similar stage in its development, so I guess in eighteen months after launch, I believe they have made big progress
There are 30 companies with a financial services license. It’s a mixed between financial multi-national companies (such as Mubadala, BNP Paribas or Northern Trust to quote a few) and many smaller firms specialised in financial services and fin-tech for example.
While there are local players there, Aberdeen Standard Investments is one of the few international asset managers there today.
