After being two-time champion, Ecuador dropped to third in the global ranking in 2016. The other countries across the Americas to feature in the top 10 were Mexico (4) and Costa Rica (6).
Ecuador lost its crown in 2016 but retained a spot on the podium. Most ground was lost in the Working Abroad’ index, mostly due to a lack of job security. The ‘Quality of Life’ index was another area where Ecuador fell behind, as only 22% of expats feel very safe, compared with a global average of 38%.
Other popular destinations across the Americas included Canada (12), Panama (15), Colombia (20), and the USA (26).
Brazil (64) was the only country in the region to feature in the bottom 10 list, although Argentina (54) and Peru (53) were close.
