With the global population booming, the ‘pillars of a functioning economy’ are set to undergo major changes, says Sanlam Four’s Mike Pinggera. Here, he looks at the six biggest themes for investors to watch.

In a similar way to the housing market, the UK student population is outpacing the amount of quality accommodation to house them.

Higher education applicants reached a record high in 2016 and the UK remains the second best country at attracting international students, a population expected to double by 2025.

It is a trend Pinggera expects will continue.

“There is a structural undersupply of purpose-built student accommodation in the UK, and many providers are helping to meet the demand from all student types,” he says.
