Six long-term economic trends changing the investment world

With the global population booming, the ‘pillars of a functioning economy’ are set to undergo major changes, says Sanlam Four’s Mike Pinggera. Here, he looks at the six biggest themes for investors to watch.
The supply and demand dynamic of the UK’s housing market is, as most have realised, heavily out of whack.
A growing population and limited supply of new and affordable housing has caused a “significant imbalance”, Pinggera says.
He believes it will have a lasting impact on the market and investors in the future.
“This has led to a rise in renting – a trend set to persist. The Private Rented Sector (PRS) is now tackling this challenge by creating new purpose built rental homes,” Pinggera adds.
