Although 2015 has been touted as the year of the stock picker, it would seem from the performance rankings that much of the success in the first quarter has been heavily influenced by geography and large macro swings.
The MFM Junior Oils Trust, a unit trust that specialises in small and mid-cap oil exploration and production companies unsurprisingly had a fairly poor quarter given where oil prices have languished in recent months. Over the three months, the fund is down 11.4% It is one of two energy focused funds on the list of the 10 worst performers, the other is the Schroder ISF Global Small Cap Energy Fund.
