After Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen dropped the word ‘patient’ from her rhetoric at the March FOMC meeting and renewed the emphasis on data dependency in deciding in next interest rate move, the market has pushed back expectations of a rate hike giving U.S. equities a boost.
The S&P 500 index had risen 13% in dollar terms last year, materially outperforming all other global markets, including Europe, Japan and emerging markets and so far this year has added around 1.4%
