PEOPLE MOVES: UK government, Zurich, Deutsche Bank

On her second day as UK prime minister, Theresa May has cleaned house and named her new cabinet. Zurich International Life has appointed a new chief operations officer, while Deutsche Bank has provisionally appointed a chief executive for Asia Pacific.

Aviva Investors

The global asset management business of Aviva has appointed Bryony Deuchars as a fund manager in its emerging market equities team. Based in London, she will report to Will Ballard, head of emerging market and Asia Pacific equities.

Deuchars has 16 years’ investment management experience and joins from Schroders, where she was a senior equity analyst, covering emerging markets. Prior to this, she was an equity analyst with WestAM.

Man GLG

The discretionary investment management business of Man Group, has appointed five senior investment professionals, completing its recently established emerging markets debt team. Based in New York and London, the team will work under Man GLG’s head of emerging markets debt strategies, Guillermo Ossés, who joined the firm in January 2016.

Phil Yuhn joins as a portfolio manager based in New York. He was previously a portfolio manager at American Century Investments, and prior to that worked alongside Ossés as a senior portfolio manager at HSBC Global Asset Management.

Jose Wynne joins as a portfolio manager based in New York. Wynne joins from Barclays where he was managing director, head of FX research.

Lisa Chua joins as a portfolio manager based in New York. She previously worked alongside Ossés as part of the emerging markets debt team at HSBC Global Asset Management in the US, where she was a senior vice president and portfolio manager responsible for external markets.

Ehsan Bashi joins as a portfolio engineer based in New York. Bashi was previously a manager at KPMG, advising clients on risk management related matters.

Maria do Carmo Cal joins as a product specialist, based in London. She was previously a managing director and head of capital markets at Banco Itaú BBA International, leading the development of the bank’s debt syndicate offering.

Sarasin & Partners

Guy Monson is to focus on his role as chief investment officer for Sarasin & Partners and has handed over the role of managing partner to Guy Matthews. As senior partner, Monson will continue to lead the business’s investment vision and market strategy for clients.

Matthews joined Sarasin & Partners in 1994 after a career at Smith & Williamson as a chartered accountant. He has been chief operating officer of Sarasin & Partners since 2010, previously serving as the chief financial officer of the Sarasin (UK) Group since 2002.

Head of operations, Tim Temple, will succeed Matthews as chief operating officer. Temple joined the firm in 2005, becoming head of operations in 2009. Prior to this, he worked at WM Company, Deutsche Asset Management, and The Bank of New York.

Honan Insurance Group

Richard Colless has been named chairman of the Australasian general insurance and financial services firm. A member of Honan’s advisory board for the past two years, Colless has over 30 years’ experience as chairman, and as a director, of a large range of public and private companies in Australia and Asia.

Carey Olsen

British Virgin Islands (BVI) and Jersey trusts lawyer Will Burnell has joined the trusts and private wealth practice of Carey Olsen as an associate in its Jersey office. He joins from the BVI office of another offshore law firm.

Burnell specialises in advising corporate, charitable and private clients on the creation, on-going management and termination of BVI and Jersey trusts and Jersey foundations.
