Lombard International Assurance
Credit Suisse’s Gabriel Spirig has been named head of distribution and business development for Switzerland and northern Europe by Lombard International Assurance. The appointment is the group’s eighth senior level hire since the global relaunch in September 2015.
Based in Zurich and reporting to Jurgen Vanhoenacker, executive director of sales, marketing & wealth structuring, Spirig will be responsible for business development in core countries such as Germany, Finland, Sweden and Norway as well as Switzerland.
He will also drive the distribution development of a new suite of high life cover solutions which are currently being developed.
Lombard Odier Investment Managers
The eight-person Volantis investment management team, which manages UK equity long/short and long only strategies, is to join Lombard Odier IM from AlphaGen Capital.
The team will join the existing 1798 hedge fund strategies platform and be based in London, managing a niche strategy focused on UK small caps.
The team’s transfer to Lombard Odier IM will be implemented under a facilitation agreement and is subject to conditions including fund board approvals, applicable regulatory consents and requisite investor votes.
Completion is expected in the first quarter of 2017, at which point Lombard Odier IM will become the manager of the alternative funds and sub-manager of the long-only fund currently managed by the Volantis investment management team.
Investment Association
Helena Morrissey is to step down as chair from the IA next summer having held the role since joining the trade body in 2014.
Morrissey also left her role as chief executive of Newton Investment Management in August after 15 years heading up the company. She remains a non-executive chairperson with Newton.
The IA said that a replacement chair will be announced in due course.
Rowan Dartington
Rowan Dartington is expanding to Scotland with the appointment of investment manager Peter Roper in Edinburgh. Roper will be representing the firm from St. James’s Place offices in the Scottish capital, working directly with private clients in the region and offering DFM solutions to SJP Partners.
Joining from Tilney Bestinvest after five years as director and investment manager, Roper has extensive experience advising private clients on all aspects of investment planning including restructuring portfolios of direct investments and asset allocation, discretionary management, specialist investment vehicles, Sipps and income planning.
Value Partners
Timothy Tse Wai-ming, chief executive of fund and asset management firm Value Partners, has resigned after working at the Hong Kong-based firm for 10 years.
Tse joined the firm in January 2007, and has been at the helm since June 2012. He is also an executive director. He will remain with the firm for three months, with Value Partners reviewing whether to replace him externally or internally.
Until a replacement is identified, chairman and co-chief investment officer Cheah Cheng-hye, who is also one of the firm’s co-founders, will take the top role.
Sarasin & Partners
Jeremy Thomas has been named head of global equities at Sarasin & Partners. He joins with immediate effect from Allianz Global Investors, where he managed the global and UK equity mandates for over 12 years.
In his new role, he will manage institutional mandates and funds and will be responsible for managing Sarasin’s team of thematic equity analysts.
Louvre Group
Louvre Middle East has named Tom Kimber as corporate manager to work alongside director Chris Parish on managing day-to-day client affairs and compliance.
Prior to taking up the post in Dubai, Kimber had worked in London and Guernsey in a variety of wealth and family office administration roles. He returns to Louvre Group having previously spent four years working with Louvre Trust in Guernsey as a trust officer.
