Moore, who has been part of Newton’s European equities team since 2008, was himself alternate manager on the £30m fund since June 2009.
Shant had been lead manager on the fund since December 2007, when previous manager Aaron Barnfather left to join Lazard AM.
The fund has returned 11.75% over the past year versus an average of 17.3% for the European ex UK unit trust sector, according to data from Financial Express.
“It is very satisfying to promote an internal manager to the role of leading our European Higher Income strategy, which we feel will become increasingly important as income investing in European equities gains traction,” said Newton chief investment officer Jeff Munroe.
