MetLife China's chief executive officer Bob Pei will be stepping down to become senior adviser for MetLife in Asia, the insurance company said, designating George Tan as the company's new CEO, subject to regulatory approval.
Tan joins MetLife from CITIC — Prudential Life China where he was the CEO and board director, and before that he was regional director of Insurance for Prudential Asia. He has also worked with Allianz China Life and held senior roles at Aetna and Ping An Insurance.
Pei will continue with the firm to support the CEO transition until December 31.
Under his stewardship, MetLife China became the third largest international insurance joint venture firm in China’s insurance market, the insurer said in a statement. During his 10-year tenure, Pei oversaw the landmark joint venture partnership between MetLife and Shanghai Alliance Investment in 2005 as well as the successful merging of MetLife’s two joint ventures in China.
MetLife is a leading global provider of insurance, annuities and employee benefit programs, serving 90m customers in over 45 countries.
