The five most in-demand investment trusts

The UK’s Association of Investment Companies has revealed the five most searched investment trusts on its website in 2017.
The well-known Baillie Gifford investment trust topped the AIC’s list easily, as it was the most viewed investment company every month of 2017, according to the firm.
Managed by James Anderson and Tom Slater (pictured), the trust enjoyed a tremendous 2017, returning a whopping 41% over the year, bolstered by its sizeable holdings in big tech.
Formidable Chinese giants Alibaba, Tencent and Baidu feature in its top 10 holdings, alongside US favourites Facebook, Alphabet and Amazon, which is its biggest position at 8.7%.
The fact that Scottish Mortgage was the only investment company to be promoted to the FTSE 100 last year was a “notable feat” that likely attracted additional attention from investors, the AIC said.
