Most expensive global expat cities 2017

Five Asian and three European cities were among the 10 most expensive places for expats to live, with the dubious honour of being the most expensive bestowed on the capital of Angola.

“The strengthening of the Japanese yen along with the high costs of expatriate consumer goods and a dynamic housing market pushed Japanese cities up in the ranking,” explained Nathalie Constantin-Métral, principal at Mercer.
As a result, Tokyo jumped from fifth in the 2016 survey, to third this year.
