BlackRock’s iShares acquired these ETFs in September 2003 and rebranded them the iShares STOXX Europe 50 UCITS ETF and the iShares Euro STOXX 50 UCITS ETF. A few weeks later on 28 April 28, 2000 the iShares FTSE 100 UCITS ETF was listed on the London Stock Exchange.
At the end of Q1 2015 the European ETF/ETP industry had 2,105 ETFs/ETPs, with 6,414 listings from 50 providers on 26 exchanges.
According to ETFGI iShares have gathered the largest net ETF/ETP inflows for the year to date with $15.14bn, followed by Lyxor AM with $5.39bn, db x trackers/db ETC with $4.51bn and UBS ETFs with $3.60bn in net inflows.
MSCI has the largest amount of ETF/ETP assets tracking its benchmarks with $119bn, reflecting 24.3% market share; STOXX is second with $105bn and 21.3% market share, followed by S&P Dow Jones with $60bn and 12.3% market share.
