Thiam will succeed Tim Breedon, the departing CEO of Legal & General, who has held the ABI chairmanship for the past two years, the ABI said. Thiam’s appointment takes effect on 3 July.
Thiam has been an executive director at Prudential since 2008, having previously spent six years at Aviva. He is a member of the Prime Minister’s Business Advisory Council.
At the ABI, Thiam will work closely with its director general, Otto Thoresen, who for many years was the CEO of Aegon’s UK op[erations.
