Lombard International
Michael Gordon has been appointed chief executive of Lombard International’s US operations, effective from 2 May. He will report to executive chairman John Hillman.
He joins Lombard International from his role as global head of insurance solutions at BNY Mellon. Additionally, he served as chief executive of Tiber Capital Management, a wholly-owned subsidiary of BNY Mellon focused on managing assets for insurance and reinsurance companies.
Before BNY Mellon, Gordon was an executive at New York Life Insurance Company, leading investment and insurance product management, sales and marketing functions.
Axa Investment Managers
Head of discretionary sales Stephen Gray has left Axa Investment Managers after 17 years, having been in his current role since November 2011. Gray joined Framlington Unit Management in 1998 before the firm was bought by Axa IM.
His responsibilities will be taken over by Axa IM’s UK discretionary sales team.
It is understood that Gray is leaving Axa IM to join Legal & General Investment Management.
Nutmeg
The founder of online investment start-up Nutmeg, Nick Hungerford, has stepped aside as chief executive to take the role of non-executive director.
His replacement has been named as Martin Stead, the firm’s current chief revenue officer, who joined Nutmeg in November 2015 from EDF Energy, where he was marketing, sales, and digital director.
Columbia Threadneedle
After 32 years in the industry, Leigh Harrison, Columbia Threadneedle’s head of equities, Europe, is to retire on 30 June. Harrison joined then Threadneedle Investments in 2006, as head of UK equities, taking up his current role in 2014.
Richard Colwell, who has worked alongside Harrison since he joined the firm in 2010, has been promoted and will fill the role vacated by Harrison.
William Davies takes on the new role of head of equities, EMEA, which will see him assume some of Harrison’s corporate responsibilities.
Henderson Global Investors
Henderson has hired Stephen Payne as co-manager of the Henderson Cautious Managed Fund, reporting to director of UK equities and lead fund manager, Chris Burvill, and working alongside co-managers John Pattullo and Jenna Barnard.
Payne joins from Santander Asset Management where he was responsible for the Enhanced, Dividend and Equity Income Funds.
STM Group
Malcolm Berryman has been appointed a non-executive director of STM Group, effective 1 May 2016. Berryman is an actuary with extensive experience of the financial services industry.
As former group chief executive of Liverpool Victoria (1999 – 2005) and a non-executive on both public and private company boards, Berryman has expertise in customer facing development, corporate governance, mergers, acquisitions and business transformation activities.
The company also announced that Jonathan Shearman has tendered his resignation as non-executive director, to allow him to spend more time on other commitments. He will step down from the board on 30 June 2016.
Gibraltar Financial Services Commission
The GFSC has named Peter Taylor as director of legal, enforcement and policy. He brings with him a strong background in litigation and regulatory law and practice. Taylor’s career took a regulatory turn when he was appointed general counsel to the Commerce Commission of New Zealand in 2000.
He was responsible for leading on significant enforcement cases and the delivery of legal advice to support the application of the Commission’s regulatory remit, in particular the application of competition law and regulation and the conduct of major litigation and prosecutions.
Sarasin & Partners
Iuliia Shpak and Ben Human have joined Sarasin’s systematic investment team. Shpak joins as systematic strategies specialist and Human will hold the position of junior quantitative analyst. Both are new roles to the team and will report to Andrea Nardon, partner and head of quant.
Before joining Sarasin, Shpak spent eight years in a senior role in the business intelligence industry in the Middle East and Europe. Human joins from Prospect Wealth Management where he spent two years as investment assistant & operations manager.
Withers
International law firm Withers is set to open a tax office in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) with the hire of tax specialist Stijn Janssen, following regulatory approval.
Janssen will head the team and joins the firm from EY’s Dubai office, where he led the MENA Private Client Services team and co-headed the Dubai international tax group since 2013.
Qualified to practice in the Netherlands, Janssen is experienced in cross-border tax matters; including advising high net worth families and family offices on international tax and succession planning projects involving onshore and offshore trusts, foundations and holding entities in a variety of jurisdictions.
