Since Sabugueiro left Zurich at the end of 2009, as reported, after only one year in his new post, there has been much speculation as to where he would end up. His new role, CEO for Swiss Life’s global clients business unit, will see Sabugueiro aim to establish a wider presence for the business in the emerging markets, in particular the more affluent clients.
Prior to leaving Zurich in 2009, Sabugueiro had worked in numerous roles for the firm over the course of 15 years, working in all the major global emerging markets and leading Zurich’s expansion into such markets as Singapore, Taiwan and Qatar.
He will be based in the firm’s Dubai office, which was established in November 2008 at the Dubai International Financial Centre as part of the group’s plans to widen its client remit, and will report to the firm’s corporate executive board.
