Corporate tax advisers Chizuko Tomita and Takeo Mizutani have been hired from the corporate tax team at law firm Morrison & Foerster to lead the office.
Additionally, the company has hired Eric Roose, a partner at Morrison & Foerster as overall head of its international corporate tax practice in Asia.
Roose has worked in Asia for over 15 years and is certified by the Singapore Institute of Accredited Tax Practitioners.
The firm said the Tokyo office, which comes hot on the heels of the February launch of Withers Khatterwong in Singapore, will add “substantial new corporate and litigation strengths” to its South East Asian practice.
Withers’ managing director, Margeret Robertson, said: “[Roose’s] hire is a significant step in building on our commercial services in Asia.
“Our family office and entrepreneurial clients frequently require us to handle their corporate transactions as well as personal legal matters. We are excited to add an affiliate office in Japan to our network and anticipate that it will result in new ways of working with clients across Asia and the US west coast, where we are also investing in substantial growth.”
Withers is an international law firm headquartered in London, United Kingdom, with offices in the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. It specializes in tax, trust and estate planning, as well as litigation, employment, family law, and other legal issues facing high-net-worth individuals.
