US in the news: Cresset names first chief experience officer

A round-up of the latest people moves and M&A deals in North America

People Moves

Cresset

The wealth firm has appointed Dave Jackson to the newly created role of chief experience officer.

He will lead Cresset’s efforts in helping to ensure positive experiences for clients.

Prior to joining the firm, he served as a principal with Evanston Advisors, a wealth management firm that Cresset acquired earlier in 2019.

Separately, Michael Costabile has been named as chief financial officer of registered investment adviser (RIA) business Cresset Asset Management.

He joins from fellow RIA firm Moneta Group, where he was also chief financial officer.

Raymond James & Associates

The adviser broker/dealer has hired Erik Weiss as a financial adviser in Greenwood, Indiana.

Weiss will also be senior vice president of investments at Weiss Financial Planning of Raymond James.

He joins RJA from JP Morgan Securities, where he previously managed more than $200m (£156m, €181m) in client assets.

Elsewhere, Jimmy Blackburn and Reed Potter Jr have joined the firm in Pikeville, Kentucky as managing directors and senior wealth managers.

The adviser team joins Raymond James from Merrill Lynch, where they previously managed approximately $241m in client assets.

The team consists of advisers Cheryl Robinette, Brianna LeRae Blackburn, Zachary Lukins and Evelyn Bear, along with client associate Misty Potter.

Together, they operate as Legacy Financial Investment Services.

Lastly, Raymond James & Associates named Kimberly Maxey as managing director in its Chicago, Illinois office.

Maxey previously worked at Wells Fargo Advisors and is joined by senior registered client service associate Darlene Worthington.

The team operates as Maxey Wealth Management of Raymond James.

Snowden Lane Partners

The independent wealth advisory firm has hired the Boyd Richard Group to set up an operation in Chicago.

It is the firm’s 11th location across the US.

The group is led by partners and managing directors Thomas Boyd and James Richard.

They join Snowden Lane from JP Morgan Securities, where they oversaw $180m in client assets with a focus on individuals, corporate executives and business owners.

Fiduciary Trust Company International

The global wealth manager and wholly-owned subsidiary of Franklin Templeton has hired Freda Lam Zietlow as senior portfolio manager and managing director in northern California.

She will focus on serving clients in Fiduciary Trust’s San Mateo office as well as the firm’s newly established office in San Francisco.

Zietlow brings more than 20 years of experience in private wealth and institutional investment management to her role at Fiduciary Trust.

Prior to joining Fiduciary Trust, Zietlow was founder and managing principal of Peridot Capital Partners.

First Republic Investment Management

Ronald Weckbacher and Gregory Webster have joined the firm in Century City, California.

They were both named managing directors and wealth managers.

Prior to First Republic, Webster and Weckbacher were senior vice presidents at UBS Financial Services.

Created Wealth Advisory

Anne Johnston will serve as the managing director and wealth adviser for the firm’s newly opened Los Angeles operation.

She will work closely with wealth strategist Nathan Stoker.

Johnston was previously at UBS.

William Blair Investment Management

Ruta Ziverte has joined the firm as head of fixed income, reporting to global head Stephanie Braming.

She is responsible for all aspects of the fixed income team leadership and investment process, as well as for developing and executing the firm’s fixed income growth strategy with other members of the team.

Before joining William Blair, Ziverte was a senior high-yield portfolio manager at Oppenheimer Funds.

M&A

Sandy Spring

The banking group has agreed to acquire Rembert Pendleton Jackson (RPJ), an investment and financial advisory firm located in Falls Church, Virginia.

Founded in 1974, RPJ currently has more than $1.3bn in assets under management (AuM).

Upon closing, the combined AuM of Sandy Spring Bank’s wealth management arms will be approximately $4.5bn.

Charles Rembert will lead the company as president.

RPJ’s senior leadership team and registered investment advisers will continue to serve their clients directly.

The transaction is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2020 and the financial terms were not disclosed.

Savant Capital Management

The Illinois-based wealth management firm has acquired Kingston Wealth Management Group.

Founded more than 35 years ago by Kevin Kingston, the business is an advisory firm based in Bloomington, Illinois.

Four employees, including Kingston and financial adviser Christopher Ruedi, will be joining the Savant family.

The team will continue to serve clients at its current locations in Bloomington.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
