Mathews, former executive head at Standard Life and Friends Provident, will continue in an “advisory capacity for a number of months”.
One of the key new appointments sees Aviva’s existing group transformation director David McMillan taking on the role of chief executive of Aviva Europe, covering Spain, Italy, Turkey, Poland, Lithuania and Russia.
Former Cigna and AIA executive Nick Amin is also joining Aviva as group transformation director and will become a member of the group executive, reporting to Mark Wilson.
Jason Windsor becomes chief strategy and development officer having spent the past 12 months leading Aviva’s strategic review and disposal programme.
Windsor will work with Paul Abberley, Aviva Investors’ interim chief executive while David Angulo will broaden his remit to take on global responsibility for driving the development of Aviva’s bancassurance distribution.
Mark Wilson, chief executive of Aviva plc, said: “These changes are about ensuring we have the right people in the right jobs.”
This reshuffle follows the appointment of Khor Hock Seng as CEO of Aviva Asia at the end of January.
