Could today’s India outshine yesterday’s China?

Though it might be tempting to view today’s India as yesterday’s China, Rathbones’ head of asset allocation Ed Smith thinks the region’s growth prospects could be even greater based on five key indicators.
Another area where India is poised to accelerate is in its physical capital creation.
Despite having one-third the land mass of China, it already has three quarters and half the railway tracks of its much larger northern neighbour.
“Capital formation in India today is on a par with China’s in 2000, which went on to increase five-fold,” he stated.
And if Modi’s administration encourages or incentivises research and development, India could be looking at “a similar explosion in patents and intellectual property,” he said.
