Banque Syz & Co. received authorisation for the new office from the Dubai Financial Services Authority earlier this month. It said the new office will serve its institutional and private investors in the Gulf Cooperation Council States, namely those in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bharain, the UAE and Qatar.
Syz & Co. said it will also promote its “Oyster” range of investment funds and will “examine the opportunities for expansion in the region”, such as the launch of specific products in cooperation with local partners.
The office will initially be manned by manager George Azar and Imran Ahmed.
Azar joins the company from Jefferies International where he managed the UAE branch of the business. Previously he spent 11 years with UBP where he was chief executive of its Qatar office.
Ahmed also joined Syz & Co. from Jefferies and had previously spent nine years with UBP, where he was deputy director and deputy head of institutional sales for North Africa and the Middle East.
