One service international financial planner firm Guardian Wealth Management (GWM) offers via its iGuard wealth management solution is Praemium, an Australian discretionary platform that supports more than 700 corporate firms managing and administering over 300,000 investor accounts and £40bn of assets.

Part of GWM’s end-to-end wealth management service, Praemium’s integrated CRM and financial planning suite supports advisers from lead generation and information gathering to risk profiling, financial plan creation through to ongoing client management and reporting.

Via its investment management company Smart, Praemium also delivers a range of actively managed white labelled risk-graded model portfolios and a range of outcome orientated multi-asset funds, including the Smartfund 80% Protected range.

For Howell, Smartfund is especially appealing to clients at this moment in time because of stock market volatility.

“The main thing is 80% of the client’s capital is guaranteed. It is traded daily, it’s liquid, but it’s locked in. If a client invests £100,000, £80,000 is guaranteed from today. So if the markets dropped by 40%, they still have £80,000; their investment doesn’t drop to £60,000.

“Equally, when the markets pick up and the investment is maybe worth £200,000, the 80% is then increased to £160,000,” he explains.

In 1994, Howell set up GWM in the UK, which he runs with joint chief executive John Hansberry, expanding the business overseas initially to Europe and then to Asia and Middle East.
