Sanlam UK buys financial planning firm

By Robbie Lawther, 7 Jan 19

The acquired business offers wealth management and family offices services

Sanlam UK, part of the international financial services group Sanlam, has acquired Astute Wealth Management.

Based in Preston, financial planning firm Astute Wealth Management was founded by managing director Andy McLaughlin and co-director Jean McLaughlin in 2007.

It offers financial planning services to clients across the north-west of England, as well as a family office service for individuals with more complex financial issues.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

African dominance

Sanlam UK is led by chief executive Jonathan Polin. The firm consists of a number of businesses including Sanlam Private Wealth, Sanlam Investments & Pensions, Sanlam Four and Sanlam Wealthy Planning.

In total, Sanlam UK has over £12bn ($15.3bn, €13.4bn) of assets under management.

In October, International Adviser reported that the South Africa-based parent group Sanlam had completed the takeover of Morocco’s Saham Finances.

It now operates in 33 markets across the continent, from Cape Town to Casablanca.
