Sarah Macdonald is to join the firm as director reporting to Phillip Harries, head of UK domestic for RBC. Macdonald will be focusing on advising RBC’s high net worth clients on asset management and wealth structuring, including portfolio construction, wealth preservation, succession issues and philanthropy. She joins the firm from Barclays Wealth and prior to this worked at Morgan Stanley.
The firm, which is part of Royal Bank of Canada, has been expanding its operations in recent months both in the UK and elsewhere in the world and last year reportedly hired 550 new staff to its international business.
It has also made no secret of the fact it is looking to make an acquisition in Europe or Asia in the next few months – having not made one since its purchase of Jersey-based offshore trust business, Mourant Private Wealth, in 2008.
“We are hiring proactively for our new UK domestic offering, which we launched last year,” said Harries.
“Sarah brings a strong knowledge and understanding of the needs of high net worth and ultra high net worth individuals and families, with a particular focus on entrepreneurs. We plan to continue expanding our UK domestic platform over the coming months.”
