1. Asia Pacific Excluding Japan

Generating returns of 11.59%, Asia Pacific Excluding Japan was the best performing IA sector of the first quarter.

Three of the ten best performing funds of the first quarter hailed from the IA’s Asia Pacific Ex Japan sector – Old Mutual Asia Pacific, Invesco Perpetual Asian and Schroder Asian Alpha Plus.

And the silver and bronze medal Q1 performances belonged to two India-focused funds – Jupiter India and Neptune India.

“Investors had to be patient but 2016 saw the turning of the tide of Asia and Emerging Markets,” said Architas’ Lowcock.

“Valuations had gotten so low that the area was offering the best value for investors.”

And Lowcock doesn’t think this sector’s outperformance in the beginning of 2017 is a passing fad either.

“The US dollar is strong but not out of control and many Asian and Emerging Markets balance sheets are in much better financial health,” he said.
