WHIreland hires a PWC partner as non-executive chairman, AIA Singapore announces its next chief technology adviser while HANetf appoints a former Blackfriars employee as director of operations.

WHIreland

Local investment manager WHIreland International Wealth has appointed Mike Simpson as a non-executive chairman, as it continues its local and international growth strategy from the Isle of Man.

With more than 35 years’ experience in financial services in the Isle of Man and Bermuda, Simpson has previously served as chairman of both the Isle of Man Society of Chartered Accountants and the Isle of Man Wealth and Fund Services Association.

Previously a partner at PwC, Simpson specialised more recently in insolvency and restructuring, dealing with a number of large liquidations, including banks, investment funds and corporate service providers.

AIA Singapore

AIA Singapore has appointed Gunawan Chiu as chief technology officer.

He is responsible for developing initiatives for AIA Singapore as part of the company’s digital transformation plans.

Chiu was previously chief of technology for AIA Financial Indonesia, where he oversaw IT operations, digital initiatives, data protection, business continuity and strategic projects development.

HANetf

HANetf has appointed Mark Tan as director of operations.

Reporting to Nik Bienkowski, co-chief executive of HANetf, Tan will be responsible for managing day to day operations, working closely with fund administrators, custody and compliance partners to support the needs of HANetf’s on-platform fund managers and investors.

Tan brings more than 10 years of investment management operations experience and 18 years in financial services.

He joins HANetf from Blackfriars Asset Management where he held the position of operations director.

Thomas Miller P&I

Thomas Miller P&I, a wholly owned subsidiary of Thomas Miller Holdings, an international provider of insurance services, has made a series of changes to its senior management team.

The present chairman and chief executive, Hugo Wynn-Williams, will step down and hand the position over to Andrew Taylor, currently chief finance officer, effective 1st May 2018.

Wynn-Williams joined Thomas Miller in 1978 after completing his bar final examinations. He was retain his position as chairman of Thomas Miller P&I.

Taylor’s role as Chief Financial Officer will be passed to Nigel de Silva. De Silva has been Thomas Miller Group actuary and the UK club’s chief actuary since 2003.

Evestor

Online financial advice platform, evestor, has created chief operating officer role as part of a wider recruitment drive that will see the team double from a staff of 25 to 50 in the next 12 months.

David Kilburn steps into the new chief operating officer position, bringing more than 28 years’ experience in the tech industry to his new position.

Kilburn’s responsibilities at evestor will include overseeing and managing the technical delivery of the products and services the business offers, as well as involvement in customer experience initiatives, marketing campaigns and business development.

He joins from transport for Greater Manchester, in the role of business and enterprise architect, where he helped to define and implement sustainable and innovative solutions.

UAE

International law firm Baker McKenzie Habib Al Mulla has announced the UAE government of the designated Habib Al Mulla, the firm’s executive chairman in the UAE and chairman of the Dubai International Arbitration Centre’s Board of Trustees, to serve on the panel of arbitrators maintained by the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).

One of the five organisations of the World Bank Group, ICSID is an autonomous international arbitration institution providing facilities for conciliation and arbitration of international investment disputes.

As a signatory to the ICSID Convention, the UAE is entitled to designate up to four people to ICSID’s panel of arbitrators, whose members are chosen from the highest echelons of the international legal community.

Bedell Cristin

Bedell Cristin has appointed Craig Paynter as a senior associate in the firm’s Singapore office.

Paynter is an experienced private client and corporate lawyer and joins Bedell Cristin from Gowling WLG where he was the principal associate in the Singapore private client team.

He is a dual qualified Solicitor, who advises in all areas of private client trust and estate planning law, corporate law and regulatory law.

Paynter’s clients include professional trustees and private bankers as well as Southeast Asian business families from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Thailand and the Philippines.
