Brendan Harper has joined the life insurance group as head of EU technical services.
He was previously at Friends Provident International where he spent almost 23 years, where his latest role was head of technical services.
BNP Paribas WM
The private banking division of France’s BNP Paribas promoted Edmund Shing to chief investment officer.
Since 2015, he was global head of equity and derivative strategy at BNP Paribas in London.
Shing will replace Florent Brones, although it is not clear why the current investment boss is stepping down.
RBC Wealth Management
The wealth management business of RBC promoted Juan Aronna to head of investments for its investments and Asia teams.
He will stay in Hong Kong for the time, before relocating to the UK, which is expected to be around May 2021.
Aronna joined RBC WM six years ago and was initially based in Singapore before moving to Hong Kong.
The Arlo Group UK
Private wealth management company The Arlo Group UK recruited Daniel Roberts as private client director.
He was previously a senior private banker at Nedbank Private Wealth.
Raymond James
The financial advice firm hired three people to spearhead the launch of an office in Manchester.
Doug McCance, Tom Illingworth and James Hymers have become co-branch principals for the company’s Spinningfields office.
McCance was previously an investment director at Close Brothers Asset Management for over six years; while Illingworth and Hymers both join from Brown Shipley where they worked as private client manager and client manager, respectively.
Standard Chartered
The group recently created a consumer, private and business banking (CPBB) business and made several hires across Asia, Europe and Americas.
The CPBB will bring together retail banking, private banking and wealth management operations led by Judy Hsu, current regional chief executive for Asean and South Asia.
Hsu will also take charge of the private and priority banking business until a permanent head is found.
Additionally, Vishu Ramachandran will lead personal and business banking; Samir Subberwal will become head of CPBB for Asia; Kariuki Ngari will look after Africa, Middle East and Europe for the CPBB business; while Rosalind Ng becomes head of client experience and strategic business enablement.
Unique Financial Planning
The UK financial planning firm expanded its team of directors with an additional hire.
Mike Gummerson will become development director, responsible for the growth of the group’s advice proposition by both acquisitions and recruitment.
He spent the last eight years at Openwork as a business development director.
Tise
The International Stock Exchange (Tise) in Guernsey appointed Robert Trefny as chair of its regulatory arm, Tise Authority.
He has over 35 years’ experience as a lawyer and most recently was a capital markets partner at Clifford Chance in London.
He will take on the role from 1 January 2021, succeeding Charlie Geffen, who will become chair of parent company Tise Group from the same date.
Natixis Investment Managers
The investment management firm has made three senior appointments in Taiwan, expanding both its retail and institutional investor business in the local market.
James Chen was promoted to general manager of Natixis IM Taiwan, while Chloe Tai and Sophia Huang have become associate directors.
Chen joined the firm as a director in 2009 and most recently was responsible for the Taiwan retail business.
Tai was an investment manager at Transglobe Life Insurance, whereas Huang was promoted after working for Natixis IM for 16 years.
