PEOPLE MOVES: Tilney, Aviva, Brewin Dolphin

Tilney appoints a former Schroders chief financial officer to its board of directors, Aviva hires a head of global financial institutions and Brewin Dolphin makes several key changes to its Cardiff team.

Tilney

UK investment management and financial planning firm Tilney has appointed Jonathan Asquith as a non-executive director and chairman of its risk and audit committee.

Asquith has held senior management positions and non-executive directorships at major asset management, investment banking and private equity groups.

His career includes six years in the leadership team at Schroders from 2002 to 2008, serving as chief financial officer and latterly as a vice chairman.

Since leaving Schroders, Asquith has held a number of non-executive directorships. He is currently deputy chairman of 3i Group and is a non-executive director of CiCap, the parent company of Coller Capital.

He was formerly chairman of Citigroup Global Markets, Dexion Capital and Axa Investment Managers.

Aviva

Global asset manager Aviva Investors has hired Charles Jewkes as head of global financial institutions. Based in London, he will report to TJ Voskamp, global head of wholesale distribution.

In this new role, Jewkes will lead Aviva Investors’ third party strategic business development with global financial institutions outside the UK.

Jewkes brings 12 years’ experience of developing and managing asset management relationships with complex financial conglomerates in North America, Emea and Asia.

He joins Aviva Investors from Fulcrum Asset Management, where he was director in the global financial institutions team. Prior to this, he was with Schroder Investment Management where he held roles as a relationship director in the global financial institutions and global intermediary insurance teams.

Brewin Dolphin

Wealth manager Brewin Dolphin has made several appointments to its Cardiff team, taking the team at Brewin Dolphin’s Callaghan Square headquarters to 40.

Joining the company with 20 years’ experience in financial services, Greg Tait has been appointed as financial adviser.

Geraint Hampson-Jones has been promoted to the role of divisional director and continues to form part of the Cardiff office’s private client team, as well as being the lead of the Company Exit Service.

A fluent Welsh-speaker, Hampson-Jones will continue to manage Brewin Dolphin’s Welsh-speaking clients.

Thomas Moore, who is also a Welsh speaker, has joined the office as an investment management assistant.

Victoria Tilstone, who joined the adviser partnership team in Cardiff in 2016 with 18 years’ industry experience, has been promoted to assistant director.

Joining Tilstone in an assistant director capacity is Meirion Davies, who has been promoted from his current position as head of the Cardiff office’s portfolio management team. Davies has worked at Brewin Dolphin for over a decade.

Fulcrum

Barry McCaldin has been appointed as a director of systematic sales at Fulcrum Asset Management. This role is intended to support the growth of Fulcrum’s systematic strategies business.

McCaldin joins from global investment management and data science company Winton, where he had senior client facing roles. Prior to this, he was a partner at the Illinois-based systematic global macro fund, Metolius Capital and head of sales and trading for the prime brokerage group at Newedge (Societe Generale).

Berkeley Alexander

Berkeley Alexander has appointed Dave Probert as its director of private clients, to spearhead the launch of its specialist high net worth (HNW) insurance division.

Probert brings more than 20 years of experience in building high net worth insurance propositions, sales, marketing, business development, and relationship management.

He joins from specialist HNW insurer Sterling where he was an associate director and head of high net worth affinity relationships.

In his new role, Probert will be responsible for leading the development of Berkeley Alexander’s HNW division, working in partnership with managing director Geoff Hall, Berkeley Alexander’s business development and sales teams.

In addition, he will be responsible for managing existing relationships, and developing new partnerships with IFAs, wealth advisers and private client mortgage brokers.

Clyde & Co

Global law firm Clyde & Co has made 12 promotions to its equity partnership. This latest growth in the firm’s partner base means it has over 400 partners worldwide.

Three of the promotions are in the Middle East and Africa (Mea) and one is in the Asia Pacific (APac).

During the past 12 months, Clyde & Co has made 50 partner level hires, including 25 in the US, 15 in the UK and Europe, 3 in APac, and 7 in Mea.

MAS

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has appointed Chaly Mah to its board of directors and Quek Gim Pew as a non-board member of the MAS board risk committee.

Mah is chairman of NetLink NBN Management and was formerly chief executive of Deloitte Asia Pacific and Deloitte Southeast Asia, as well as chairman of Deloitte Singapore. Mah’s term of appointment will be from 1 May 2018 to 31 May 2020.

Schroders

Schroders has appointed Robbie Boukhoufane and Alan Wilson as portfolio managers within its global multi-sector fixed income team.

Boukhoufane has been at Schroders for more than six years and has over 20 years of experience working in fixed income and foreign exchange (FX) trading.

He has been global head of fixed income and FX trading at Schroders since 2016. In this role, he managed Schroders’ fixed income execution with a team of 20 specialist traders across four regional desks.

Wilson joins Schroders from State Street Global Advisors where he was a senior portfolio manager focusing on global rates and FX. Prior to this, Wilson worked within the global macro team at Aberdeen, where he started his career in 2010.

Gravis Advisory

Specialist investment advisory firm Gravis Advisory, a subsidiary of Gravis Capital Management, has expanded its team with hires from Columbia Threadneedle and Fidelity.

Nick Winder will take on the role of sales director. He has worked in the investment industry for 30 years, initially for 10 years with GT Asset Management as sales director-discretionary sales.

For the past 20 years Winder has worked for Columbia Threadneedle, heading up third party distribution, and was responsible for the UK advisory market as well as life company and platform distribution.

Gravis Advisory has also hired Lexi Diggins, who joins as marketing manager, and brings more than 10 years’ experience in the financial services industry across global marketing and client relationship roles, most recently at Fidelity.

Diggins will be focusing on marketing the VT Gravis UK Infrastructure Income Fund and the VT Gravis Clean Energy Fund.
