Barings Asset Management
International investment firm Baring Asset Management has announced the appointment of Darryl Lucas to the position of global equity income investment manager.
Lucas is based in London and reports to Marino Valensise. He joins Barings from Sarasin & Partners, where he was most recently head of equity income and a fund manager across a range of dividend mandates.
Previously Lucas was a credit analyst at ABN AMRO Asset Management; he has also worked as an analyst of financial markets at the Bank of England.
Sanlam
South African financial services group Sanlam has appointed former chief executive Johan Van Zyl to the Sanlam and Sanlam Life Insurance boards as a non-executive director. Van Zyl will be an Ubuntu-Botho Investment Holdings (UB) nominated representative on the boards.
Sanlam further announced the establishment of Sanlam Corporate, a business cluster that will support the delivery of an enhanced and integrated offering to the group’s corporate clients in South Africa and ultimately to the rest of Africa.
Sanlam has appointed Junior Ngulube as the chief executive of the newly formed business. He joins from Munich Reinsurance Company of Africa where he was chief executive of their sub-Saharan operations since 2007 following a career that spanned 28 years in various positions within the Munich Re group.
Ngulube will take up his position on 1 February 2016 and will be a member of the Sanlam Executive Committee.
Wealth Management Association
The Wealth Management Association (WMA) has announced that Sarah Soar, head of investment management at JM Finn & Co will be joining the WMA board of directors with immediate effect.
Soar started her career in 1984 at Brewin Dolphin in London. After moving into a senior management role, she was appointed to the Brewin Dolphin Limited Board in 2003 and then to the Brewin Dolphin Holdings Board in 2007. Soar stepped down from the company in March 2013 and joined JM Finn & Co as head of investment management in January 2014 and was appointed to the Council of the Institute of Directors in 2013.
Aspinalls
Aspinalls, the financial planning practice, wealth manager and private office, has appointed Matthew Parden to the position of chief executive.
Parden has over 20 years’ experience in the industry; including 17 years at Duncan Lawrie Private Bank as finance director and latterly group managing director. He is a physics graduate who subsequently qualified as a chartered accountant before pursuing a career in the financial services industry.
