PEOPLE MOVES: JO Hambro, Capital Group, Rothschild & Co

Asset manager names female chief executive to lead UK, Europe and Asia

JO Hambro Capital Management

The UK-headquartered asset manager has hired Alexandra Altinger as chief executive of UK, Europe and Asia.

She will assume her role with effect from 9 September 2019 and be based in London.

Altinger was the chief executive of Sandaire Investment Office between 2014 and 2017, before taking a career break.

Capital Group

Guy Henriques has been named head of Europe and Asia distribution at Capital Group, starting from November 2019.

Henriques, who will be based in London, joins from Schroders where he most recently was head of UK distribution and chief executive of Latin America.

He held a series of senior positions at the firm including president for Schroders Japan between 2012 and 2016; head of official institutions in London and head of institutional Asia Pacific in Hong Kong.

Rothschild & Co

Bruno Pfister has decided to stand down from his role as chair of Rothschild & Co Bank in the summer. He has been with the company for over 25 years.

Gary Powell, the current chair of the company’s wealth management business, will take over. Pfister will continue to work as a senior adviser.

Additionally, Alexandre de Rothschild has been named executive chairman of Rothschild & Co and will also step down from the bank’s board this summer.

François Pérol, managing partner and co-chairman of the global executive committee, will replace him while keeping his existing responsibilities.

MLC Wealth

The wealth management business of the National Bank of Australia (NAB) has made two promotions.

Garry Mulchay has been named group executive asset management and Tim Steele has taken on the role of group executive retirement and investment solutions.

Mulchay was previously the executive general manager for super and solutions, while Steele was general manager of NAB Financial Planning and NAB Direct Advice.

Geoff Lloyd, the chief executive of MLC Wealth, said that the promotions are part of the firm’s growth plan as it prepares to separate from the NAB Group.

MetLife

The New York-headquartered life insurer has made two hires at its Australian business.

John Ashton and Dave Evans join as head of retail product and as strategic account manager, respectively.

Ashton will be based in the firm’s Melbourne office and Evans will work in Brisbane.

Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA)

The executive director of the HKMA has resigned and will leave his role on 1 August 2019.

Vincent Lee has been with the Hong Kong regulator for over 25 years.

Darryl Chan, the current executive director for corporate services, will succeed Lee and continue to oversee the corporate services department while the HKMA looks for a replacement.

Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC)

The GSFC has started looking for a successor to its current chief executive as her term is going to end in August 2020.

Samantha Brass said she will not continue in the top job past her second term, as she intends to move back to the UK and look for other opportunities.

The commission has given the recruitment task to a specialist agency. The process will be managed by the board which will work with the minister of commerce Albert Isola.

Sanne

The global provider of alternative asset and corporate business services has hired Varounen Goiden as business development director for Mauritius and India.

Goiden will be based in the firm’s Mauritius office.

He joins from Juristax Group where he was chief executive and was responsible for overseeing a portfolio of regulated entities and leading the group’s African expansion strategy.

Pareto Financial Planning

The financial advisory firm has named a former captain in the royal marines as an independent financial adviser.

Philip May has over 10 years’ experience, having left his army career in 2008.

May advises both corporate and individual clients on tax, estate, pension and retirement planning as well as investment strategies and portfolio management.

He joins Pareto from Cheetam Jackson where he held a similar position.

Estera

Michelle Tring has been promoted to trust director at the offshore fiduciary and administration services provider.

She is based in Jersey and was previously an associate director at the firm. She will oversee the private client team in the Channel Island.

Three other promotions have been made in the Jersey office: Matthew Askham to analyst, Kerry Godel to senior analyst, and Adam Riccio to senior client manager.

These are part of a series of 50 promotions at Estera across 11 jurisdictions.
