PEOPLE MOVES: HSBC AM, M&G, Julius Baer

Asset manager names APAC and Hong Kong CEO, while UK firm hires first CIO

HSBC Asset Management

Daisy Ho will become chief executive for Asia Pacific and Hong Kong at the asset manager.

She will be based in the special administrative region.

Ho was previously at Fidelity International, where spent the last 16 years and, most recently, worked as president for China.

M&G Wealth

The wealth management business of M&G named Shanti Kelemen as its first chief investment officer.

She joins from Brown Shipley, where she served as investment director.

Julius Baer

Kevin Tay has re-joined the Swiss banking group and taken on the role of head of wealth planning and family office services in Singapore.

He was at Sequent Group as a senior partner and head of Asia, after spending the previous 14 years at Julius Baer.

Citi Private Bank

Chia Pei Jet has become managing director and investment counsellor team lead for the Singapore and Malaysia ultra-high net worth (UHNW) business at the private bank.

Based in Singapore, she will help expand Citi’s UHNW footprint in the two regions.

She joins from JP Morgan Private Bank where she was a global investment specialist and team lead for Indonesia for more than two years.

Waverton Group

The discretionary investment management house has expanded its wealth planning proposition with a senior hire, following two acquisitions to bolster its services.

Marco Malagoni has become head of wealth planning, based in London.

He joins from Cazenove Capital, where he was wealth planning director.

Fairstone

Peter Donaldson joined the UK financial planning group as divisional director.

He was previously at HSBC, where he spent nearly 17 years in several positions including, more recently, senior manager for strategic distribution.

Quilter Cheviot

The discretionary investment arm of Quilter has expanded its regional investment management and business development teams with several hires.

Andrew Gilbert joined the firm’s Edinburgh office from Parmenion Capital Partners to work with private clients and financial advisers in the Scottish city.

Andrew Cartwright has become an investment manager from Brewin Dolphin, while Philip Hurdman joins as business development manager from Aegon, both in the Birmingham office.

Marshall Doherty and Nick Lumb have also joined the Edinburgh office as business development managers from Aberdeen Standard Investments and Franklin Templeton, respectively.

Charles Russell Speechlys

The law firm has recruited Madalina-Andreea Dumitrescu as disputes partner within the commercial disputes division.

She joins from Mishcon de Reya and is a dual-qualified English solicitor and Romanian lawyer advising on contentious and commercial issues for UHNW individuals, families and global businesses.

Lawrence Stephens

The UK law firm has hired Gareth Hughes as private wealth and succession planning director.

He was previously a partner and head of private client at law firm Greenwoods.

The Burnside Partnership

Matthew Briggs has become a partner and head of the newly opened London office at the private client and tax specialist law firm.

He joins from Osborne Clarke, where he served as senior associate for more than two years.
