PEOPLE MOVES: Franklin Templeton, St James’s Place, EFG

CEO change at global asset manager, while former LGIM head of personal investing joins wealth firm

Franklin Templeton

Chief operating officer Jennifer Johnson has replaced her brother, Gregory Johnson, as chief executive of the global asset manager.

Jennifer Johnson’s promotion will be effective from 11 February 2020, while Gregory Johnson will become executive chairman at the same time. He is chairman of the board of directors.

Jennifer Johnson joined the family-controlled business in 1988. She has worked across business divisions, including investment management, global distribution, customer service, fund administration, global technology, and the high net worth business.

St James’s Place

The wealth manager has appointed Helena Morrissey to its board just over a month after she announced her exit from Legal & General Investment Management.

Morrissey becomes a non-executive director at SJP from 1 January 2020.

She was chief executive of Newton Investment Management from 2001 to 2016, having joined the company, now part of BNY Investment Management, in 1984.

EFG

The financial services firm has hired eight members to its Asia Pacific business, in a bid to strengthen its Singapore team.

Brandon Wong joins EFG as a senior investment counsellor. He brings 13 years of banking experience to the role, including nine years as an investment counsellor at BNP Paribas Wealth Management.

Grace Wong, senior vice president, joins its greater China team as a client relationship officer. She was previously director of the Taiwan team at BNP Wealth Management.

Whilton Leo joins EFG as a client relationship officer with the rank of managing director. He previously served as a senior director for client advisory at Bank J Safra Sarasin.

Jayanta Chatterjee will be executive director and joins from Bank of Singapore.

Manoj Samtani also joins the bank as an executive director. He previously spent five years as a private banker at Bank of Singapore.

Nitin Kakaria joins as an executive director and he previously worked for Bank of Singapore and UBP Hong Kong.

Rohit Punjabi has taken on the role of executive director and previously worked for financial institutions including UBS and Coutts & Co.

Vishal Rajani joins EFG as an executive director and previously held the position of director, global south Asia market, at Bank of Singapore.

Brooks Macdonald

The UK firm has hired Jonty Warneken as head of north – senior investment director.

He joins from Sanlam, where he was head of the discretionary portfolio management team in the north of England.

JTC

The firm has appointed Matthias Belz as head of JTC Private Office.

Based in Geneva, Belz will be responsible growing and developing the JTC Private Office business.

He joins JTC Private Office having most recently been managing director at TMF Group.

Marlborough Group

Sarah Peaston has been named as the third independent non-executive director of Marlborough Fund Managers and IFSL Fund Services.

She is founder and director of Regulatory Governance Consulting Limited, a consultancy service that assists businesses with regulatory governance and provides thought leadership in the regulatory space.

Prior to her work at Regulatory Governance Consulting, Peaston held a senior regulatory control change management and quality assurance role at Citi from 2010 to 2018.

Eighteen48 Partners

Ex-Stanhope Capital trio Julien Sevaux, Tarek AbuZayyad and Edward Clive have launched the private investment office.

It will address the needs of professional investors, sophisticated families and institutions.

John Singer, former managing partner of private equity firm Advent International, is representing strategic shareholders on the Eighteen48 board.

The UK firm has strengthened its ranks with the appointment of paraplanners Caroline Singh-Bhaker, Chris Swaby and Lucas Jones.

Singh-Bhaker and Jones both have more than 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry.

Swaby has 10 years’ experience, working with a client base made up of sports professionals.

Meanwhile, Laura Taylor and Derek Ward have been promoted to team leader roles.
