PEOPLE MOVES: Embark, Zurich, Old Mutual International

Digital retirement provider hires platform lead, with insurer making double hire in Singapore

Embark Group

Phillip Bungey is to join the digital retirement solutions provider as part of the proposed future leadership team for its Advance platform business (also known as Zurich Sterling Isa Managers), which the group acquired on 20 November.

He role became effective from 1 December 2019.

Bungey served as chief operations officer at 7IM for the past three years and previously held a similar position at Nutmeg.

Old Mutual International

The Singapore arm of the life insurance firm has added two recruits to its high net worth team.

Claire Tan and Christabel Fernandez have both been appointed as directors of high net worth solutions.

Tan joins from United Overseas Bank where she served as vice president, while Fernandez was previously an associate director at wealth management company Charles Monat.

Zurich

Head of UK Life Jim Sykes is to retire at the end of the year after spending over three decades at the Swiss insurer.

He will be succeeded by Alex Koslowski, current chief executive of Royal London Ireland, at an unspecified point in 2020.

Sykes started his career at Zurich in 1988 and held several positions within the life business. He has been in his current role since 2017.

GAM

The asset manager’s group head of investments, Matthew Beesley, is to leave the firm.

He joined Gam in 2017, but his role will not be replaced.

His business management duties will be absorbed by the two heads of the Systematic and Solutions and Discretionary investment groups.

Beesley’s front office responsibilities will now fall under the group chief operating officer, Steve Rafferty.

Deutsche Bank Wealth Management

Following several senior hires within its global south Asia team, Deutsche Bank WM has recruited two senior people within its Dubai business.

Hamza Hamza has been named as investment manager, joining from Standard Chartered Private Bank.

Naushair Malli joins as a client adviser, having previously worked with ultra-high net worth clients at Julius Baer and Barclays.

They will both be based in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

Quilter Investors

The investment solutions provider has promoted Dean Bowden to managing director of the multi-asset business.

He joined the firm when it was called Skandia Investment Group in 2007 and held several senior positions, his latest one being chief commercial officer since 2018.

The role of director of investments will be incorporated into chief executive Paul Simpson’s duties.

Hermes Investment Management

Nigel Norman has been named director for Middle East distribution at the investment management company.

He will be responsible for developing the brand and relationships across the region.

In his most recent role, Norman was head of Middle East and Africa at Aberdeen Standard Investments.

Intertrust

The provider of administrative services has appointed Michael Moncarz as managing director for Asia-Pacific operations.

In the newly created role, he will be tasked with the creation of a regional platform to support the firm’s business development initiatives.

Moncarz joins from Union Bancaire Privee Singapore where he served as chief operating officer, as well as several different senior positions before that.

State Street

The investment management firm has recruited Cara Brosnan as head of sector solutions, Australia and southeast Asia, effective immediately.

The newly created role will be based in Sydney and she will be responsible for leading sales across all of State Street’s products and client sectors.

Previously, she was the regional head of insurance sector sales for HSBC Securities Services in Asia Pacific.

Pershing

The tech firm has appointed Andrew Duffin and Helen Oxley as business development directors based in London.

Duffin was most recently head of sales and relationship management of UK and Ireland at Société Genérale Securities Services.

Oxley joins from SEI Investments, where she was director and head of solutions for the firm’s wealth platform.
