A chief executive steps down as investment platform makes senior hire

CII Group

The group has confirmed that Alan Vallance will leave his role as chief executive in spring 2024.

He will take up the equivalent role at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

Vallance joined the CII Group in August 2022, having previously led the Royal Institute of British Architects.

The group will shortly begin a process to identify a replacement for Vallance.

AJ Bell

The investment platform has appointed Ryan Hughes as investments director.

Hughes will lead AJ Bell’s investment proposition including its range of AJ Bell multi-asset funds and its Managed Portfolio Service (MPS) for financial advisers.

He was most recently head of investment partnerships, overseeing bespoke MPS portfolios for advised firms, something he will continue to be involved with in his new role.

Prior to joining AJ Bell, he was a fund manager and discretionary portfolio manager at Apollo Multi Asset Management.

UBS

The global wealth manager has announced that client adviser Allister Hogg has joined the firm in Newcastle.

While Marcus Stewart has relocated to the Newcastle office and will take on the new role as North East office head, reporting to Debjani Raffan head of Scotland, Northern Ireland, the North East and Yorkshire.

Hogg joined UBS from Barclays Wealth Management in Newcastle where he was a client adviser , prior to that he was a professional rugby player for 16 years.
Stewart has been at UBS for 14 years and before that worked as a client adviser at Brewin Dolphin.

Close Brothers Asset Management

The asset manager has recruited Investec Wealth’s Peter Horton as its senior investment director and head of its newly founded Cheltenham office.

Before the move, Horton had spent the past 17 years at Investec Wealth starting in 2006, working as its divisional director.

He is also a trustee for the Baron Davenport’s Charity in Birmingham. In his role as senior investment director, he will focus on bespoke investment services and the portfolios of high net worth clients.

Evelyn Partners

The wealth manager and professional services group has appointed Andrew Moat as a financial planner in the firm’s Nottingham office.

Moat worked most recently at Fiscal Engineers Limited in Nottingham where he spent seven years and was a financial planner.

AIG Life

The UK life insurance arm of Corebridge Financial has hired Setul Mehta as head of intermediary distribution.

He will report to Nick Austin managing director of individual protection at AIG Life.

Mehta was most recently head of partnership services at the Openwork Partnership having spent 18 years with the financial adviser network.

Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management in the Crown Dependencies (CGWM)

The wealth manager has hired Geoff Marson to join the Funds team in Guernsey as lead fund manager for the Canaccord Genuity Dynamic Fund (formerly the Odey Opportunity Fund).

Triple Point

The investment manager has appointed Toby Furnivall as managing director of Triple Point Private Credit.

This comes as Neil Richards will be stepping down from his role as head of Private Credit.

Furnivall previously held the position of chief commercial officer in the Private Credit team and has 17 years lending experience.
