Axa Asia
Etienne Bouas-Laurent has been appointed chief executive of Life & Savings and Distribution of Axa Asia. Reporting to Jean-Louis Laurent Josi, regional chief executive of Axa Asia and Paul Evans, group chief executive, Axa Global Life, Savings & Health, he will be based at the regional head office in Hong Kong.
Bouas-Laurent also has country management responsibilities to ensure both General Insurance and Life & Savings entities in Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia are strategically aligned to support the profitable growth of each market.
Prior to joining Axa Asia in September 2016, Bouas-Laurent was chief financial officer at Axa Germany, based in Cologne, a position he held since September 2012.
Legal & General
Legal & General Capital (LGC), the principal investment arm of Legal & General Group, has appointed Stephen Halliwell as its chief financial officer. In his new role, Halliwell will support the growth strategy of LGC, which invests in socially and economically useful enterprises.
He was previously chief financial officer at 3i Infrastructure, the FTSE250 group focused on UK and European infrastructure investments.
Further, Legal & General’s pension risk transfer business has appointed Frankie Borrell as business development director. His focus will be on servicing the small to mid-sized pension scheme market.
Borrell joins L&G from Partnership where he worked in their bulk annuity team, with previous roles at Just Retirement and in KPMG’s corporate pensions teams.
Aegon AM
Aegon Asset Management has appointed Gary Black as president of Aegon USA Realty Advisors (Aura) and named executive presidents Scott Coté and Christoph Gabler as co-heads of real estate.
Black joined Aegon Asset Management US in June 2016 as chief executive officer. A 24-year veteran of asset management, Black was previously co-chief investment officer of Calamos Investments, and prior to that, chief investment officer, president and, ultimately, chief executive of Janus Capital Group.
Coté, who joined Aegon in 1997, was formerly head of Aura’s commercial mortgage loan, agriculture loan, and engineering groups. Gabler joined Aura in 2000, formerly, as head of community investments, he was responsible for Aura’s tax credit investing operations and distribution.
Manulife
Richard Payette has been appointed president and chief executive of Manulife Quebec. He will be responsible for leading the development, implementation and execution of the firm’s Quebec strategy.
In this role, Payette will serve as a member of Manulife’s Canadian division executive management team, and the global leadership team, reporting to Marianne Harrison, president and chief executive of Manulife Canada.
From 2010 to 2015, Payette held several senior leadership positions at accounting, tax and advisory firm BDO. Most recently as chief executive for the Americas region for BDO International, he led and implemented strategic initiatives, covering Canada, US, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
Macquarie Investment Management
MIM, part of the asset management arm of Macquarie Group, has appointed Markus Rottler as head of distribution for the German professional buyer market. Based in Munich, Rottler will introduce Macquarie’s broad range of investment capabilities to professional buyers in the German market.
He brings more than 12 years’ asset management experience to his new role. Prior to joining Macquarie, Rottler spent five years at Columbia Threadneedle, focusing on both the professional buyer and institutional client segments. Prior to that, he spent seven years at Pioneer Investments in various portfolio management and client facing roles.
Old Mutual Wealth
Old Mutual Wealth Private Client Advisers has announced the appointment of Dominic Rose to lead the firm’s growth strategy in London.
Rose joins from Bellpenny, where he oversaw the firm’s acquisition strategy for over four years. He will report to managing director, Nigel Speirs.
Rowan Dartington
Rowan Dartington has appointed two investment managers as part of its UK national growth strategy. The two recruits will be developing Rowan Dartington’s activity in Leeds and Ipswich, working directly with private clients and offering wealth management solutions supporting St. James’s Place Partners.
Luke Pearce will develop the firm’s activity in the Leeds region. He is joining the firm from Brewin Dolphin, where he was one of their investment managers. He will be representing Rowan Dartington from St. James’s Place’s office in Leeds.
In East Anglia, Alex Boyle is joining the firm’s Ipswich office after seven years at Hawksmoor Investment Management as a senior investment manager. With over 30 years’ experience in the financial industry in a combination of roles ranging from fund manager to investment writer and discretionary private client portfolio manager.

Simon Nicol has joined Thomas Miller Investments from Broadstone Corporate Benefits as pension principal. He has worked for a number of pension consultancies and wealth management businesses and will provide technical expertise to clients and to our professional partners, particularly within the accountancy and legal professions.
