Allfunds expands in Asia

Allfunds Bank Group, the fund distribution platform operator, has announced a major expansion in Asia with the appointment three new staff and a move to larger premises in Singapore.

Heading the new appointments is Oliver Stewart-Malir who is Allfunds chief operating Officer (COO) for Asia. He joins from Goldman Sachs where he spent 13 years working for the company from its offices in Singapore, Tokyo, New York and London.

Vinita Badlani has joined as head of funds groups for Asia. Previously, she held a leadership role at Navigator, an integrated investment platform by Aviva, overseeing the due diligence process for funds and designing competitive funds offerings. Prior to that, Vinita worked at Citibank.

Finally, Edwin Tan has joined Allfunds as the head of client services for Asia. Tan brings 16 years of financial services experience, including client relationship and fund services roles, and joins from Citco Fund Services. Prior to that, he worked at State Street Bank and Trust and UBS AG.

All three new hires will be based in Singapore where the company has moved to new premises to accommodate their growing team.

Created in 2000, Allfunds Bank currently has more than €370bn of assets under administration and offers more than 64,400 funds from over 1,200 fund managers.

Tilney targets Scotland for growth

Investment management and financial planning group Tilney, which has over £24bn in funds under management has strengthened its team in Scotland with the appointment of John Milne as a financial planner and Debbie Hair as a senior investment manager.

Milne joins the Aberdeen office from Lloyds Wealth Management where he spent the past six years as a financial planner. Prior to this, he was senior financial adviser at the Bank of Scotland.

Hair joins Tilney’s Edinburgh office after returning from 18-months based in New York where she worked for Coleman Research, a firm providing research consultancy services to investment firms. Prior to this Debbie worked as an investment Manager at Vestra Wealth.

HSBC GAM expands global bonds team

HSBC Global Asset Management has raided Aberdeen Asset Management and Barings as it builds out its fixed income team.

Oliver Boulind has been hired to develop asset allocation strategies for global fixed income funds and manage global bond and global total return portfolios. He joins from Aberdeen Asset Management where he was responsible for asset allocation on the global aggregate and total return bond portfolios.

Richard Balfour joins from Barings, where he was an investment manager on the multi-sector fixed income team. He will manage global and UK fixed income portfolios. Previously, he was a portfolio manager at Credit Suisse Asset Management, where he had responsibility for the firm’s UK gilt portfolios.

Both men will report to Ernst Osiander, head of global bonds.

Nucleus gets new tech head for internal systems

Platform provider Nucleus has appointed Jeannie Bowman as its first head of internal systems.

Bowman joins from oil giant Shell, where she undertook several global IT management projects and operations, in addition to audit management roles. Prior to this, she worked as a regional senior IT technical consultant in Kuala Lumpur.

At Nucleus, Bowman will be leading the infrastructure and systems security teams, as well as having accountability for overseeing the development of the IT systems architecture and managing the change. She reports to chief technology officer Andrew Smith.
