Paribas Asset Management founder dies

He was chief executive from 1984 to 2001 and played a key role in merger with BNP Gestions

BNP Paribas Asset Management has paid tribute to Alain Leclair who died on 15 June. 

Described as an “emblematic figure within asset management”, the company said he played a key role in the merger with BNP Gestions in 2000.  

He joined Paribas in 1966 and founded Paribas Asset Management in 1984, which he ran until 2001.  

He was also president, and later honorary president, of the French Asset Management Association (AFG). 

Passion and vision

Frédéric Janbon, chief executive of BNP Paribas Asset Management, said: “We would like to pay tribute to Alain Leclair for his achievements, both for our company and for the development of the Paris as a financial centre.  

“Passionate about the asset management business, Alain was determined to help our clients achieve their investment goals.  

“This passion, his vision of the profession, and his European ambition will remain rooted in our history.  

“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”
