As part of its fund selector analysis on Europe ex UK funds, Morningstar has identified which recently launched funds to watch.
The Old Mutual Europe (ex UK) Smaller Companies Fund has a Morningstar Analyst Rating of Bronze. Fund manager Ian Ormiston joined Old Mutual in October 2014, with the launch of this fund following shortly afterwards in November.
The approach he applies here is the same as he used in his previous role as manager of the Ignis European Smaller Companies Fund, which he managed for approximately seven years between 2007 and 2014 to good effect.
Ormiston has more than 20 years’ investment experience in European equities, having started his career in 1994.
The Mirabaud Equities ex UK Europe Small and Mid Cap Fund is managed by Ken Nicholson, who is supported by Trevor Fitzgerald.
The fund was only launched in November 2015 but Nicholson is known from his time as manager of the Standard Life Investments European Smaller Companies Fund, where he built a strong track record over the seven years running the fund from 2007. The investment process he employs at Mirabaud is similar to that of his previous mandate at SLI.
He seeks stocks where he believes the market has underestimated a company’s earnings potential and where he can see a clear catalyst to realise this value.
