MIA chairman David Kneeshaw, who is also Royal London 360° chief executive, said: “We made the decision last week that we are going to accept associate members. It was ratified at our members’ meeting and we are sending out a letter to those who are interested.”
Kneeshaw was appointed MIA chairman in the spring of this year and this new category of membership is an initiative which he said was debated carefully to establish what both the insurance companies and those businesses with close relationships to them could get out of this closer involvement.
“We can’t charge them a fee and treat them as second class citizens,” he said, adding that they will have full membership rights including being able to sit on the various committees.
Founded more than 21 years ago, the MIA promotes the interests of the Isle of Man’s insurance industry, with input from the island’s Government on policy and industry matters.
