London and Switzerland leading centres for execution

27 Jun 11

London and Switzerland have emerged as the two financial centres for investment execution in Europe.

London and Switzerland have emerged as the two financial centres for investment execution in Europe.

The study, Brokerages in Europe, said due to this trend most brokerages have developed pan-European capabilities centred around their London operations and brokerage business has moved away from markets such as France and Germany.

Boston-based Celent examined the four largest markets in terms of the value of their asset management industries – the UK, Switzerland, France and Germany – and looked at the main characteristics of the market, along with the leading drivers of growth.

“Consolidation is expected to continue in the brokerage market,” said Anshuman Jaswal, Celent senior analyst and author of the report. “Regulation globally and across Europe will impact brokerages’ business models.”

The report discusses the leading retail and institutional brokerages, along with a description of the main asset classes they cover and the revenue from their capital markets business. The brokerages are categorized on the basis of their institutional or retail coverage and their asset class coverage.
