Labour’s 17-point tax avoidance clampdown plan
By Mark Battersby, 15 May 17
As voting day for the UK general election rapidly approaches, the Labour party has spelled out a wide-ranging 17-point plan to tackle tax avoidance and public filing of the tax returns of wealthy individuals earning more than £1m.

Its manifesto ideas, which go much further than the Conservative party’s well-known crackdown plans in this space, are unlikely to see the light of day given the widely-held view that Theresa May will secure a substantial majority.
However, the 17 points do show one party’s strong minded agenda in this area, including an immediate public inquiry into the issues raised by the Panama Papers, a withholding tax for what it calls “abusive tax havens” and public filing of tax returns of those earning more than £1m ($1.29m, €1.18m).
