Lauber is leaving the Swiss banking group for personal reasons, Julius Baer said in a statement. He will retain his current roles and duties until the handover.
Most recently, Varnholt, who has had more than 20 years in the Swiss investment management industry, had been CIO and head of asset management and institutional clients at Bank J. Safra Sarasin.
As reported, Julius Baer, which is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange, is currently integrating Merrill Lynch’s international wealth management business outside the US. This will increase its presence to more than 50 offices in 25 countries.
Headquartered in Zurich, Julius Baer has offices in such financial centres as Dubai, Frankfurt, Geneva, Hong Kong, London, Lugano, Madrid, Monaco, Montevideo, Moscow, Shanghai and Singapore.
Its specialty is looking after "sophisticated private clients, family offices and independent asset managers from around the world", according to a statement on its website.
