The FSC become aware of the website and in a public warning it stated “that the above mentioned website is in no way connected or associated with the genuine Abacus Financial Services Limited and is not a website operated by any part of the Abacus Group.
“The address contact details on the bogus website are that of the genuine Abacus Financial Services Limited, however, the contact e-mail addresses and telephone numbers listed are not associated with the genuine entity."
Within the ‘about us’ page on the website, the following named individuals are listed as supposedly being the senior management team of Abacus Financial Services: Raymond Stubbs, Don Andersen, David Dickens, Sam Walsh, Howard Cotty, and Cindy Juerg. None of the individuals named are known to the genuine Abacus Financial Services Limited.
“Under the circumstances, the commission would strongly urge persons considering dealing with this potentially fraudulent website to exercise the greatest possible caution before proceeding,” the FSC warned.
The Commission stated that any person accessing this fraudulent website may potentially become the victim of an advanced fee fraud. See explanatory notice issued by the commission.
Alternatively, the bogus site may be an attempt at gaining personal data from the recipient in order to steal their identity – see explanatory notice issued by the commission.
The FSC further states that any persons who have paid funds in connection to the above website should consider contacting their local police fraud unit without delay.
