Fee-based 1% model ‘overcharging’ UK clients, study finds

By International Adviser, 27 Jan 17

UK consumers are being overcharged by advisers who levy a percentage point fee on the value of the assets a client invests, with too much money going into the pockets of wealth managers, according to a new report by Capital Asset Management.

UK consumers are being overcharged by advisers who levy a percentage point fee on the value of the assets a client invests, with too much money going into the pockets of wealth managers, according to a new report by Capital Asset Management.

The report comes as restricted advice group St James’s Place (SJP), one of the largest wealth managers in the UK, has pledged to publish its pension charges for the first time, amid repeated questions about its charging structure.

Last month, the company came under fire over claims it will not be caught by the UK’s incoming 1% cap on exit charges.
