Morrall had been in the Singapore role for two years, after having spent three years in Dubai as regional director of Zurich’s Middle East operations. He had been with the company for 24 years.
The exodus from Zurich’s Singapore outpost comes a little more than a year after the company was approved by Singapore’s regulator to cater for the so-called direct insurance market – the estimated 95% of the Singaporean population that Zurich, like such “defined market segment” rivals as Friends Provident International and Generali, previously had not been licenced to cater for.
The others who have left Zurich are understood to include Michael Wrigley, who had been head of expatriate sales, and Matthew Whitehouse, who had been business development director.
Whitehouse is reported to have returned to the UK, where he has been named to a group risk distribution role at Aviva UK, while Wrigley is understood to be in discussions about a possible role with Standard Life Singapore.
At Hansard, Morrall succeeds Joe Kanarek, who earlier this year announced his intention of retiring at the end of June, after twelve years with the company.
Zurich said Morrall’s successor would be announced “in due course”, following a “rigorous” recruitment process.
