Credit card fraudster financial adviser banned

By Kirsten Hastings, 5 Jun 20

He is currently serving a three-and-a-half-year jail term

The Financial Conduct Authority confirmed on 4 June that it has made a prohibition order again former financial adviser Jason Taylor.

According to a final notice on the watchdog’s website, on 14 January 2019, Taylor pleaded guilty to attempting to acquire criminal property.

Four days later, he was sentenced to three-and-a-half years imprisonment and ordered to pay a £170 victim surcharge.

The prohibition order takes effect from 27 May 2020.

US credit card details

Taylor held various controlled functions at four authorised firms between 2012 and 2019 and it was during this period that the offence occured.

In his sentencing remarks, Recorder Hunt QC said that, by way of joint enterprise, Taylor had attempted to acquire the proceeds of fraudulent credit card transactions totalling £127,000 ($159,532, €141,603).

The offence involved significant planning and was described as “sophisticated” in nature, the FCA stated.

The sentencing judge noted that the cross-border element of the offending, involving the use of illegally obtained US credit card details, was an aggravating factor.
