Zhu, whose appointment will be effective from 7 April, joins Blackrock after eight years at Goldman Sachs, where she most recently held the position of managing director, chief China equity strategist.
Prior to that, she also worked in the global investment research division of Goldman Sachs as Asia business unit leader for the telecoms and internet sectors, covering China and regional telecoms companies.
Her stint also includes a similar role at ABN AMRO where she covered telecom sector for five years.
The investment manager said Zhu’s appointment “significantly strengthens” BlackRock’s China equities capabilities and she will assume portfolio management later in the year subject to regulatory approvals. She would report to Andrew Swan, head of Asian equities.
As of the end of December, BlackRock’s assets under management were $4.324trn (£2.58trn).
