Former adviser faces $4m stealing charges in Australia

By Laura Purkess, 22 Aug 25

Ms Pearson has been remanded in custody until the next court date on October 1

A former financial adviser has appeared in Perth Magistrates Court over stealing charges related to the misappropriation of around A$4.1m (£1.97m) belonging to 13 clients in Australia.

Marion Joan Pearson was successfully extradited from New Zealand by Australian authorities after several years of appeals against her extradition.

Ms Pearson appeared in court on August 21 over 136 counts of stealing allegedly committed between January 6 2009 and October 25 2013. She has been remanded in custody until the next court date at Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on October 1.

The Australian Investment and Securities Commission (ASIC) began its investigation in July 2014 and permanently banned Ms Pearson from providing financial services in Australia in November 2015. An arrest warrant was issued in December 2018.
