Hunting for alpha in a fund

It is not good enough to get away with what amounts to a closet tracking portfolio with fees that would correspond more appropriately with an active approach, says Rod Guest, international sales manager for Marlborough International Investment.

Guest says there are too many of these sorts of funds in the market and it is a challenge for advisers when outsourcing to choose the right managers that do genuinely can add value on the investment management front.  

He further explains the key ingredients for how a fund manager can search out Alpha in a portfolio.
